The sensor-driven auto mode is the whole point. In a real bedroom, particle events happen constantly — making the bed, opening a window during ragweed season, a cat jumping on the duvet. The 300S sees each event on its display ring, surges the fan for a few minutes, then drops back to a whisper. You set it once and never think about it, and your filter lasts its full rated life because the unit isn't stuck on high.
The plain Core 300, by contrast, runs whatever speed you picked until you change it. Run it on medium all day and you get equivalent cleaning over 24 hours — you just do the "sensing" yourself.
App control adds scheduling and filter-life tracking, and the display shows live air quality. None of it is required: the 300S works fully from its top buttons out of the box.
